MAGDI ABOUL-KHEIR – THE PIANO HAS BEEN DREAMING

The Piano Has Been Dreaming by Magdi Aboul-Kheir feels like a very personal and intimate project that stays true to his belief in melody and emotional expression. As a composer whose influences stretch from baroque to trance and romanticism to groove, he keeps things simple here, focusing purely on the piano. The album is built around eight short pieces, but together they create a complete emotional journey that reflects themes of affection, loss, grief, and love.

The album opens with “Echoes of Tenderness,” setting a calm and reflective mood right away. This flows naturally into “Beauty, Wine and Truth,” which feels warm and expressive without trying too hard. “Letters Never Sent” stands out because of how it captures the feeling of things left unsaid, while “Sanctuary of Dreams” creates a peaceful, almost safe space through its soft and quiet sound. The use of felt piano and grand piano gives these tracks a very natural and close feeling.

As the album progresses, “Gravity of the Heart” and “The Shadow’s Shadow” bring a slightly heavier emotional tone, touching more on introspection and inner struggles. “Last Light and Fading Thoughts” continues this direction, sounding like a moment of reflection at the end of a long day. Throughout all these tracks, you can tell that not a single note is unnecessary—everything feels intentional and carefully placed.

The closing track, “Eternal Home,” brings everything together in a gentle and meaningful way. Overall, the album is not about complexity but about feeling. It’s quiet, deeply emotional, and easy to connect with. In just about thirty minutes, Magdi Aboul-Kheir manages to create a full world of sound that feels both personal and honest, staying true to his style of making music that is expressive, accessible, and driven by melody.
