1. What inspired you to write and record “If Love Was The Meal”?
The inspiration came from witnessing both abundance and need at the same time. Throughout my life, I have seen people waste food without a second thought, while others struggle to find their next meal. As an Army veteran who has traveled overseas and someone who has personally experienced hardship, homelessness, and hunger, I felt compelled to create something that would make people stop and think about this issue in a different way.
2. The title is very unique and thought-provoking. What does “If Love Was The Meal” mean to you personally?
To me, it is a question that challenges our humanity. If love were something people needed to survive, would we share it freely, or would we allow others to go without it? The title uses food as a metaphor for compassion and asks us to consider how we treat one another in a world where so many people are suffering.
3. Was there a specific life experience or relationship that influenced the song’s lyrics?
Absolutely. My military service exposed me to poverty and hardship in different parts of the world, and my own experiences with homelessness and hunger gave me a personal understanding of what it means to go without. Those experiences shaped not only the lyrics but also the overall message of the song.
4. What message were you hoping listeners would take away from this track?
I hope listeners walk away with greater awareness and compassion. The world produces enough resources to feed everyone, yet millions still go hungry. I want people to understand that hunger is not simply a supply issue—it is often the result of war, greed, inequality, and human decisions. More importantly, I want people to recognize that they can be part of the solution.
5. Which lyric from the song best captures its core meaning, and why?
The line, “If love was the meal, would you let them starve?” captures the heart of the entire record. It takes a global issue and turns it into a personal question. It forces each listener to reflect on their own compassion and responsibility toward others.
6. How did the songwriting process for “If Love Was The Meal” differ from your previous works?
Most songs begin with entertainment in mind. This song began with a mission. Every lyric, every verse, and every creative decision was built around delivering a message rather than creating a commercial record. The goal was not to write a hit—it was to start a conversation.
7. What emotions did you experience while creating and recording the song?
A mixture of sadness, frustration, hope, and determination. It is heartbreaking to know that people continue to suffer from hunger in a world with so much abundance. At the same time, I felt hopeful because music has the power to bring people together and inspire action.
8. How have fans responded to “If Love Was The Meal,” and has any feedback particularly stood out to you?
Many listeners have told me that the song made them think about hunger in a way they never had before. Some have shared stories about volunteering, donating, or experiencing hardship themselves. The feedback that stands out most is when someone tells me the song made them stop and reflect on how fortunate they are and how they can help others.
9. Were there any challenges you faced during the production of the song?
One of the biggest challenges was making sure the music matched the weight and emotion of the message. This wasn’t a typical song where the production simply supports a melody—it had to support a mission.
I challenged our producer, Keshawn “IGoTDaaKeys” Gant, to create music that would make listeners feel the message before they even processed the lyrics. He took that challenge seriously and did an incredible job. In particular, the guitar work became a key part of the song’s emotional foundation, helping convey both the pain of hunger and the hope that compassion can bring.
Keshawn was assisted throughout the project by our manager, Kevin Crump, and together they helped shape a sound that complemented the lyrics rather than competing with them. The goal was to create a record that felt honest, emotional, and thought-provoking while still remaining musical and engaging.
Looking back, I believe they accomplished exactly that. The production helps carry the message in a way that allows listeners to connect with the song on a deeper level.
10. Looking back on the finished record, what aspect of “If Love Was The Meal” are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the fact that the song stands for something bigger than itself. It is not just a record—it is part of a larger effort to raise awareness about global hunger and inspire people to care about one another. Knowing that 25% of the royalties are being directed toward organizations fighting hunger makes the project even more meaningful because it transforms awareness into action.
