Track Review: Trashy Annie – “Big Red Bow”

Trashy Annie doesn’t ask for permission — she never has. With Big Red Bow, frontwoman Annie Davis doubles down on the raw, boundary-pushing ethos that’s quickly become her band’s signature. The Austin-based rock outfit has been making noise since the pandemic era with their rebellious fusion of outlaw country and gritty rock and roll. Now, with this latest single, they’re stepping even further outside the lines — and it’s glorious.

Trashy Annie

Big Red Bow is a swaggering anthem of self-love, sexual liberation, and flipping the bird to a society still clinging to double standards. Over a gritty rock backbone laced with flashes of hip-hop bravado, Davis delivers her message with tongue-in-cheek wit and righteous fury. “It’s about embracing who you are,” she says — and you believe her. Every lyric lands like a mic drop from someone who’s lived it, survived it, and come out louder and prouder on the other side.  The track surprises — in the best way. Where 2021’s Sticks & Stones stayed largely in the alt-country lane, Big Red Bow kicks open the door to new terrain. There’s a little rap cadence here, some glam-rock attitude there, and all of it glued together by the band’s signature rough-around-the-edges charm. It’s a bold evolution that still feels rooted in Trashy Annie’s no-BS authenticity.

What makes the track hit hardest, though, isn’t just its sound — it’s the message. In a world where women are still punished for doing what men are praised for, Davis turns the tables with humor and heat. There’s a rebel spirit here, sure, but also something more: empowerment without apology. Big Red Bow might wear its sex appeal like, well, a shiny red bow — but underneath the sass is a razor-sharp critique of cultural hypocrisy. And Annie Davis knows exactly how to wield it. As the band gears up to drop their sophomore album Let It Kill You on October 31, Big Red Bow is the perfect teaser: fearless, fresh, and fully on fire. For fans of: Elle King, Miranda Lambert, Joan Jett, and anyone tired of playing by the rules.
