Waterflower combines music and visual elements into a profound immersive experience with their new release, “Būrī”. The track features an eerie melody that approaches a hypnotic state with layers of haunting electronic sounds and otherworldly vocals. The song presents a dual sensation of physical and emotional confinement while suggesting transformation as a path toward liberation. Working with NAAVE and Hilke deepens the track while amplifying its atmospheric tension to create a mesmerizing auditory experience throughout the entire song.
Ri Shirotsuki directed and choreographed the music video which uses stunning and surreal imagery to vividly illustrate the song’s themes. The narrative takes place in a grim post-apocalyptic universe and tracks the adventures of a character played by Vencheska Baltique who is famous for drag performances. The character’s journey from innocence to survival represents their escape from controlling cycles. The character Nonbinary, as portrayed by Waterflower, represents the internal battle between fear and bravery while exploring new territories. As NAAVE embodies Death, they silently observe and create an unsettling yet powerful presence. The visual artistry of cinematography and choreography blends together to produce scenes that are both striking to the eye and emotionally powerful.
The video of “Būrī” explores themes of human nature along with anxiety and resilience through its haunting aesthetic. Every frame and note captures the tension between fear and freedom transforming the work into a memorable experience beyond music or video. The creative team achieved remarkable originality through their work from art direction to special effects. Audiences who enjoy experimental music with profound narratives should definitely experience “Būrī” both visually and audibly.
